Mike Nock is one of the masters of jazz in Australia, having worked for 25 years in the USA with many of the world’s top jazz musicians. Tonight he joins the beautiful songbird Martha Marlow for an evening of jazz standards and some of Martha’s original compositions.

Peter Yanada McKenzie, contemporary photographer

Yiribana Gallery, lower level 3
Peter Yanada McKenzie exposes a unique side of the Sydney community with his personal and moving images. Throughout his career, McKenzie, an Eora/Anaiwan man, has documented La Per’s local characters, landscape, events and activities.

5.30pm The Heysen letters: Hans and Nora
Associate Professor Catherine Speck, University of Adelaide

20th and 21st c Australian art, ground level
Catherine Speck, author of Heysen to Heysen, reads letters from the thirty-year-long correspondence about art, between father and daughter artists, Hans and Nora Heysen. Their letters shed light on each others’ lives and art as well as the art worlds of Sydney and Australia.

Bill Gammage, academic historian and author
Entrance court, ground level
Bill Gammage talks on the Australian landscape and his recent book, The Biggest Estate on Earth: How Aborigines Made Australia (2011), which won the 2012 Prime Minister’s Literary Awards Prize for Australian History. Gammage is a historian and adjunct professor in the Humanities Research Centre at the Australian National University.

7.15pm Art Gab: a monthly chat exploring artworks and ideas
